Gangotri Yatra 2019
Situated in the scenic district of Uttarkashi, Gangotri is known for being one of the most picturesque holy destinations in India. Sitting peacefully amongst the incredible and thick green Himalayan cover and the wide blue open skies is the stunningly stark white temple of Gangotri. Known for being the sea of goddess Ganga, this temple is supposed to be the place from where the holy river of Ganga flows towards the mainland of India. The entire valley is replete with and impressive collection of flora, fauna and places to visit. Not only is this one of the most highly revered destinations among the devout Hindus but it is also a much-preferred destination among the outdoor sports enthusiasts communities.
This place is riddled with history and goes back to the ancient times when as a response to the penance by King Sagara, Goddess Ganga had descended to the earthly realm from the matted locks of Lord Shiva. The current temple was built by the great Amar Singh Thapa, a Nepalese general along the holy river of Bhagirathi. From here on can also go on an expedition to its source at Gaumukh (a part of the Gangotri glacier), which is situated at a distance of 19 kms from the main temple of Gangotri.
The entire region of Gangotri is known for its sheer and pure beauty which brilliantly illustrates the beauty of nature in full vigor. Once the Gangotri Dham is opened for darshan people from far and wide make it a point to visit this place as a part of their holy char dham yatra journey of Uttarakhand and as a part of the ritual it is visited after Yamunotri since it is believed to start from the eastern most dham and carries on till the western most dham.
