About Mussoorie

The name Mussoorie is very old and this name was given by the locals since plenty of Mansoor shrubs used to grow here. The locals would bring their herds of cattle to graze on these fields. It was in 1825 that Mussoorie was established as a resort by a British officer named Lt. Frederick Young. He went on to become the magistrate of Doon and even helped raise the very first Gurkha regiment in the region.

Over time, Mussoorie attracted many royals, high-end politicians, and executive officers of the British Empire. Going for a holiday in Mussoorie to beat the scorching heat of the plains became routine. Presently Mussoorie tourism is at an all-time high and still ranks as one of the top hill stations of India. There are plenty of activities, things to do, and places to see here for tourists that will guarantee an experience of a lifetime.
