About Kedarnath

Set against the backdrop of Kedar dome mountain ranges in the Garhwal Himalayas, Kedarnath was built by the 8th-century philosopher, sage, and the propagator of Advaita Vedanta, Adi Shankaracharya.

Ever since its conception, this place of Shiva worship, which is also an important place of Jyotirlinga worship, has been a major place of pilgrimage among the Hindu population. Along with Kedarnath, other temples included in the Char Dham Yatra are Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

According to Hindu literary sources, the Kedarnath Temple, which is one of the highest located Shiva temples in the world, was once visited by the Pandava brothers while looking for Lord Shiva in order to ask for forgiveness for the Brahmahatya of the Kauravas.

Best Time to Visit Kedarnath

Kedarnath is located on an elevation of 11,755 feet above sea level so it is understood that the climate conditions here can be a bit unexpected and erratic. This has also been proven by the sudden flash flood of July 2013.
